Headed to Boston Comic Con!

I'll be mostly running around the con floor and meeting with people, but my wife, Renae De Liz (who is a Special Guest!) is set up in Artist Alley for herself and Womanthology, and will be at the Womanthology Panel.

So, if you want to find me, hang out there, OR just look for the most handsome man with the most awesome beard at the con!

I'll be taking a couple of commissions of YOUR favorite characters or real life portraits at the show (cash or credit card) so if you're interested message me at RayDillonGGS@gmail.com or text 207.809.9512 and we can meet up!

ALSO, if you track me down, you can see a 46-page PRINTED version of TURTLES: Dawn of the Ninja, the TMNT graphic novel I was hired to paint! (Totally not for sale!)

Oh, AND follow me on Twitter, because I'll be posting my whereabouts throughout the day. Sing it Rockapella-style with me "Where in Boston is Raymond Dillonego!?"

Young GEORGE LUCAS likeness for Ridley Scott's "Prophets of Science Fiction" on The Science Channel

I'm drawing motion comics for Ridley Scott's "Prophets of Science Fiction" the George Lucas episode for The Science Channel and trying to get the likeness down. So weird seeing him younger. Fine beard and mane, sir! So, how am I doin'?

*UPDATE*
These are some actual frames from the show. I had created them to be animated, so the arms, hands, head, waste, everything could be moved separately. The find show didn't have enough time to do as much as we all hoped, but it still turned out awesome!

George Lucas with his imagination showing.
Pitching Star Wars to execs who just didn't get it. (Funny sequence in the show)
Look at those dorks. Those film execs from the 70s are some fun cameos of my long-time friends (who weren't born until the 80s) John Johnson & Jeremy Fiest.
Concept Artist Ralph McQuarrie & George Lucas. It was an honor to draw him. He passed away shortly after I did. :(
George Lucas was in a nearly fatal car accident in 1962 just after graduating high school. It almost stopped him, but was also his inspiration. To learn the rest of that story, check out Ridley Scott's "Prophets of Science Fiction" on The Science Channel. Really interesting story!

"These aren't the droids you're looking for."
(That was a hard hand gesture to not make look weird!)

My Art on THE SCIENCE CHANNEL!! "Meteorite Men" & Ridley Scott's "Prophets of Science Fiction"

Can't post a video or art just yet, but currently if you watch "Meteorite Men" you'll see my work. I did the art for the intro. Meteorites crashing, space, Earth, Kansas, the logo, all painted by me and animated by Jared Flynn. It's odd how many episodes are in Kansas. I moved away from Kansas to work on a show set in Kansas. :D

MONDAYS AT 1OPM EST

And what I'm working on now is Ridley Scott's "Prophets of Science Fiction" where my comic book style art is animated. Currently doing the Isaac Asimov episode so expect to see some robots. Future episodes: George Lucas, Gene Roddenberry, and more!

Thanks for checking it out!

How did this happen? Well, one day I was driving down a calm street in South Portland, Maine and saw a couple of guys with a camera. I used to be one of those guys running around with my friends with a camera, and I didn't know anyone in Maine yet, so I decided to stop and say hi and see what they were working on. They pointed at the little brick building across the street and said they work for Lone Wolf Documentary Group. I went into the building and saw posters for shows I'd watched on Science, History, Nova, Discovery and more! So, I chatted with them, let them know what I do, and said if any opportunities came up for art, let me know. They said they were definitely interested and that some of their programs were going to have motion comic style stuff because that was starting to be a trend on those types of shows. So, after a couple of years chatting back and forth and working on some small things that didn't come to fruition, they asked me to do Meteorite Men and right after that, the producer for Lone Wolf moved to LA and started working for Science Channel. He remembered my work and asked me to do Prophets of Science Fiction.

What's my point? What I learned from this reinforced something I've always felt. Opportunity can be ANYWHERE, so never shy away from it and always keep an eye open! Also, stick with something even if nothing is happening YET. Plant the seeds and a tree might just grow from it later. Who knows where THIS could lead me now!

CLOWN from SPAWN!

This came pouring out of me in 20 minutes as a warm-up sketch! No kidding. I love the Spawn comics. It's where I got my start reading and drawing. Clown is awesome. I haven't really drawn him since I was a kid. Whew! Didn't realize I had this sitting inside me. I think I'll have to do more Spawn universe art.

"Seeing Grandma" Flash Fiction & Audio

I read my story "Seeing Grandma" a flash fiction exercise. (mp3)

“Seeing Grandma”
By Ray Dillon

I can only skip through the foggy forests of memory to get to grandmas house, and it hurts to realize I can lay out the exact floor plan of her warm home in my mind’s eye, but not the details of her warm face. While I could tell you roughly how many steps it would take to cross her screened-in porch with grass-green carpet to enter her front door, I can only offer a vague shape of her head; and on that short, pear head is not the expression of happiness and love but the feeling of it wavering in front of smooth skin where a face should be. Eyes, nose, mouth, all blink in and out, but never long enough for my eyes to process. The single detail of her I can actually envision is the drastically sagging skin of her arms that scared me at first but now pull me into the memory of her joking about it and making me laugh. She always made me laugh. She made everyone laugh. I can recall the concept of her smile as infectious. Perhaps when she smiled her rosy cheeks stood out and her eyes became crescents, but I can only speculate.

We moved away. She died a year later. I was 10.

She left the Earth and what remained was a shell of her house that was later demolished leaving no trace of her in reality. But the golden ethereal holograms of that time I took a nap in her bed, and the brick walkway to my favorite tree, and Neapolitan ice cream, and safety, and love, and her arms around me only intensify with time.
The End
I would love to hear your thoughts and I would love it if you joined in and wrote your own story to the prompt of "Grandma's Memory." It would be even cooler if you recorded your own AudioBoo so I can listen to you read it.

Thanks for lookin'!
