Just a quick digitally painted sketch for the latest Illustration Friday; prompt of "Monster."
Anyone who takes their anger out on a child, physically or verbally, is a monster.
Listening to Gary Jules "Mad World" (from the Donnie Darko soundtrack) while drawing this:
Gotta get back to the Wizard of Oz sketch cards. Still a couple hundred to do.
Thanks for lookin'.

Aaaaaaaarrrrrgggg! Too scary Ray!!
ReplyDeleteGood job, excellent in fact!
This is scary, the little hand being held in his huge fist is what really makes it for me.
ReplyDeletereally scary ! nice monster illo!
ReplyDeleteFor a topic that can lend itself to all manner of fantasy and even cute monsters, yours is not only truly monstrous, but within the realm of actual possibility. It makes me squirm, and hope someone can rescue that poor child!
ReplyDeleteVery well done!
that's great. I like the loose/quick strokes. (and that you included mood music)
ReplyDeleteIt's is racist.
ReplyDeleteWhy a black ma?
Definitely not racist, man. That's just silly. FIrst, he's not black (though the color I used for skin tone is confusing, I admit). He's a real (white; redneck, actually) person that I know of. Unfortunately, this person actually exists.
ReplyDeleteEven if he was black the assumption that it's racist is pretty silly.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind words.

Very powerful!!! real scare show here, sometimes this is reality, the worst kind of monster.
ReplyDeleteThe situation being actual and a part of the real world makes it the most monstrous of all the monsters here at the I.Friday.
ReplyDeleteDang -- that !@#$% person is someone real, not just a concept.
ReplyDeleteHave they gotten themselves right (thru therapy, jail time, whatever?)
Makes ME angry just thinking about them whompin' on some child. My Avenging Monster gets her hackles up.
Ah! This is a monster...I'm pleased as punch. To me this is more of a monster than GODZILLA (Japan is his final resting ground) The idea is HERE!
ReplyDeleteyep theres a lil monster in us all only diff is how we controll it. nice reality check
ReplyDeleteso true!
ReplyDeletei really like the lighting on his face... nicely done.
very strong painting!
ReplyDeleteA very good illustration; though very sad.
ReplyDeleteFYI; in case you didn't know; "Mad World" was originially done by "Tears for Fears" on "The Hurting" album; the entire album is directed towards this issue; as I think the album "Songs from the Big Chair" is. They derived thier name from "primal therapy".
Hey, everyone!! Thanks for the great feedback and kind words.
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately this guy is real and has yet to see consequenses for his actions. Hopefully soon.
ascenderrisesabove - I did not know that. I'll definitely be looking for that album. Thanks!

very well done. i can see the vessels popping in his face! i remember seeing that face before, and i agree. a monster.
ReplyDeleteThis puts us in the place of the poorchild - I can't imagine how terrifying it would be to see this face and know it belonged to my parent. Very powerful!
ReplyDeleteThis is a powerful illustration with an excellent message!
ReplyDeleteI'm inspire to see you job , man /.
